The 1-Micron Absolute Cartridge Filter 20" (SMF PL20B01A) is the highest-rated sediment filter available for standard 20" x 4.5" Big Blue Point of Entry (POE) filter housings. At 1-micron absolute, it removes 99.99% of particles at that size — including bacteria, viruses, Giardia cysts, and Cryptosporidium — making it one of the most effective mechanical filtration options available without UV or chemical treatment.
What It Does
Unlike nominal-rated filters that only capture a percentage of particles at their stated micron level, this filter is absolute rated — meaning it removes 99.99% of particles at 1 micron or larger. This includes:
- Bacteria and viruses
- Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium cysts
- Fine sediment, silt, and particulates
- Rust and scale particles
Who It's For
This filter is ideal for properties where microbial or fine particulate contamination is a concern and a high level of mechanical filtration is required. It's commonly used as a final pre-filter stage before UV disinfection, or as a standalone filter where chemical treatment is not desired.

When to Replace
Replace every 3–6 months depending on water quality. Due to the fine micron rating, this filter will load up faster than coarser sediment filters — monitor flow rate and replace when flow decreases noticeably.
Installation
Fits directly into any standard Big Blue 20" x 4.5" filter housing. Shut off the water supply, use the housing wrench to unscrew the sump, swap the cartridge, and restore water flow. Contact us for support if needed.
